Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal

Lighthouses have been around for thousands of years. Historically lighthouses in the early years have been used to guide ships/boats to the shore safely. A lighthouse would include a tower and housing for the maintenance staff who would be in charge of keeping the tower lit. Today, the lighthouse towers are being replaced by automated lights and navigational charts. A lighthouse caretaker had become extinct. Historical Society volunteers give the tours and maintain the up keep on the existing lighthouses.
